Entrevista exclusiva a Josephine Angelini

1. Who is Josephine Angelini? Please, could you give us a description about yourself? We want to know more about you: what inspires you, what you like and dislike in life...

I’m from a very big family. I have six older sisters and one older brother, and we all grew up very close to each other. I love art and music, and although I don’t have a talent for creating either of those things, I appreciate them immensely. I love to read and take long walks with my husband and if I had to pick one thing that I dislike, it would have to be close-mindedness.

2. I've read that you studied in New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and graduated in theater. How did you get into writing?

2. He leído que estudiaste en la University's Tisch School of the Arts de Nueva York y te especializaste en teatro. ¿Cómo te involucraste en la escritura?

When I first went from writing in my journal to trying to be a professional I thought I wanted to be a screenwriter. I was involved in theatre my whole life, and screenplays seemed like the logical choice. But I found the format restrictive. I guess I’m way too long winded! It wasn’t until my husband pointed out that I love to read novels and maybe I should do what I love that it started to sink in that I’m a novelist. It sounds obvious in retrospect, but it was a big Eureka moment in my life.

3. Starcrossed is about Greek mythology, its gods, goddesses, supernatural creatures, dramatic and complicated stories. Was it very difficult to gather the information to prepare the book? How was the writing process?

Gathering the information was easy because I studied classical theatre in college. I was already very familiar with my source material—like the Oresteia, and the Iliad. In fact, I chose the subject matter in Starcrossed because I was already comfortable with it.

4. Can you tell one scene you enjoyed particularly writing?

The “After the Fall” scene between Lucas and Helen was probably the easiest and most fun for me to write. For some reason that scene just flowed out of me, and it barely changed at all over the editing process. It worked from day one. I wish it was always like that!

5. Among all the characters, which one is your favorite and why?

Helen is my favorite. She starts off painfully shy, and as she learns to accept herself for who she is she blossoms into a strong young woman. Her journey is very special to me.

6. Do the story or the characters have something from you? Is there any part of you imprinted in the story or in any of the characters? Where did you get the inspiration from?

All of my characters have bits and pieces of me in them. I also borrow heavily from friends and family and people I’ve worked with over the years. None of my characters are exact replicas—they all evolve and take on a life of their own—but I start with what I know in others and build my characters from there.

7. Part of the events happen in Spain, the Delos family were living in Spain, (I'm from Spain)... why did you choose this country? And more important, are you planning a tour in Europe to promote the book?

I chose Spain because I needed to keep the Delos family close to the Atlantic Ocean (for plot reasons) and I wanted to have them move from a foreign country. I am also fascinated by Spain-- it seems like such a romantic place to me! I’ve never been, but I plan on going as soon as I can, and I would love to visit on tour if at all possible.

Además, me fascina España...

8. We are looking forward to your next two books in this series. (I'm dying to get the next one!) Can we have a little (tiny) sneak peak of the plot? Or at least, what can we expect? What can you tell us about the next two books?

The second book is called Dreamless and it is a bit darker than the first. I don’t want to give too much away, but I can tell you that it involves many dangerous trips into the Underworld and a new character named Orion. I can’t wait for you to read it! J

    Besotes!!!
